Strong German Pavilions at agrofood & plastprintpack Nigeria and iran food + bev tec

German manufacturers increase their food + bev tec exports to Iran by 93.5% according to VDMA

Following the success of its first agrofood plastpack Ethiopia at the beginning of February in Addis Ababa, the German trade show specialist fairtrade is currently reporting on strong German Pavilions at its agrofood & plastprintpack Nigeria 2017 in March with 31 German exhibitors on 510 sqm and at iran food + bev Tec 2017 in May with 44 exhibitors on 1,182 sqm. According to VDMA, German manufacturers have increased their food + bev tec exports to Iran by 93.5% in the first eleven months of 2016.

The 3rd agrofood & plastprintpack Nigeria will be held at the Landmark Center in Lagos on 28 to 30 March 2017. The official German Pavilion at the event is organised for the first time, presented by the German Ministry for Economic Affairs-BMWi and the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry-AUMA and supported by the German Engineering Federation VDMA - Food Processing & Packaging Machinery Association. Its remarkable success with 31 German exhibitors on 510 sqm - plus four German exhibitors outside the German Pavilion - is based on the top positions Nigeria and Lagos occupy.

Africa's largest economy and with 180 million most populous country in recent years has regularly been among Africa's top three in food and packaging technology imports, which amounted to 381 million euros in the peak year 2014, according to VDMA. As a state, the metropolis of Lagos alone is Africa's fifth-largest economy, with 15 million inhabitants the most populous city on the continent. "Alongside the impressive German Pavilion, VDMA is organizing a full-day symposium entitled ‘German Technology - Tailor made for foodstuff processing & packaging’, outlines Leonie Ganser, fairtrade's project manager. “The German participation in the agrofood & plastprintpack Nigeria 2017 will be rounded off by a cocktail reception at the German Consul General Ingo Herbert for the German exhibitors and their Nigerian business partners on the evening of 28 March".

In addition to the German participation, France is represented by 16 exhibitors, supported by the French agrofood association adepta. Other strong exhibiting countries are Italy, China and Nigeria. To date, sixteen countries are represented, and for the first time more than one hundred exhibitors will participate. A premiere for the Landmark Center, because it is not just hall 1 fully occupied, but for the first time also hall 2.

In Iran, fairtrade has been working significantly longer than in Nigeria. Since 1994, fairtrade, together with their Iranian partner Palar Samaneh, has been organisng iran agrofood, which is divided into the four dedicated trade shows iran agro, iran food + hospitality, iran food ingredients and iran food + bev tec and last year, with 1,443 exhibitors from 49 countries, occupied the entire Tehran International Fairgrounds.

The 24th edition will now take place on 23 to 26 May, and for the first time after the sanctions have been lifted, an official German Pavilion will again be presented by BMWi and AUMA and supported by VDMA. As in the previous year, the German Ambassador will invite the exhibitors and their Iranian business partners for a cocktail reception to the German Embassy Tehran on the evening of the first day of the event.

"44 German exhibitors will be exhibiting their technologies tailored to the needs of the Iranian market at the German Pavilion at iran food + bev tec on a 1,182 sqm net exhibition area," says Paul März, exhibition director at fairtrade. "In addition, 15 German exhibitors on 606 sqm are exhibiting at iran food + bev tec and iran food ingredients outside the German Pavilion. This impressive German presence reflects the extremely robust Iranian growth market. After all, German manufacturers of food and packaging machines were able to increase their exports to Iran by 93.5% to 83.1 million euros in the first eleven months of 2016, according to VDMA.”

Similar to Germany, Italy traditionally massively presents itself at iran food + bev tec, last year with even more than one hundred exhibitors. Other official country pavilions come from Austria, China, France, India, the Netherlands, Poland and Turkey. In 2016, 633 exhibitors from 37 countries participated in iran food + bev tec, including 96 exhibitors from 11 countries of the Special Showcase iran food ingredients. These figures are expected to increase significantly this year.

Successful first agrofood plastpack Ethiopia

fairtrade's first agrofood plastpack Ethiopia on 3 to 5 February 2017 at the Millennium Hall in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa was extremely successful. 2,615 visitors from 33 countries, 48 ​​accredited journalists and a media hype around the 60 exhibitors from 14 countries led to very good results during the final exhibitor survey. All exhibitors would recommend the trade fair, 93% of the exhibitors were satisfied or very satisfied with the number of visitors, 91% with the trade fair in total, 89% with the quality of the business contacts and 84% with the business outlook after the fair.

agrofood plastpack Ethiopia was officially opened on 3 February by Ethiopian Minister of Industry, Dr. Mebratu Meles, as well as by the Economic Counsellors of the Dutch, French and German Embassies, the GIZ's Director-General and the Managers Market Development Africa of the German Food Processing & Packaging Machinery Association VDMA and the French agrofood association adepta. The next agrofood plastpack Ethiopia will take place in November 2018.
