The German Ambassador Mr Ruediger John stressed in his speech. “agrofood & plastprintpack West Africa 2014 are taking place at the right time. Despite the Ebola Virus disease and its negative impact on the lives of people, the economic and political stability not only in the affected countries but in the whole sub-region, agrofood & plastprintpack West Africa sets a sign of solidarity. This trade show is in full conformity with the demand of the President of Ghana and Chairman of ECOWAS: “isolate Ebola, not the countries”. agrofood & plastprintpack West Africa will spread this message also to Europe.”
The Hon. Ekow Spio Gabrahh, Minister of Trade & Industry outlined on his behalf by Mr Papa Kow Bartels: “Ghana’s current agricultural and policy framework and national development plan emphazises the importance of graduating from a subsistence-based small-holder system to a sector characterized by commercial market-driven enterprises that are engaged in agricultural production, agro-processing and other activities along the value chain.
In pursuant of this objective, Government in close collaboration with the World Bank and USAID is supporting agricultural development projects through the Ghana Commercial Agriculture Project (GCAP), which principally focuses on improving the investment climate for agri-business and developing inclusive Private-Public Partnerships (PPPs) and smallholder linkages aimed at increasing productivity and value addition.
The agrofood & plastprintpack West Africa which signifies a two trail-blazer exhibition comes as an excellent double-header approach to bringing value addition and safety, particularly at a time that packaging technology is undergoing rapid development driven by the increasing quest for food safety, transportability and aesthetic appeal. Indeed, packaging is progressively becoming an integral component of product pricing criteria, promotion campaigns, brand identity, and the product marketing mix. I am totally convinced that this fair will help boost our efforts of modernizing agro-processing and packaging industries which are vital to our export led economic policies.”

Ghana is one of the “top export markets 2014” says German Ministry for Economic Affairs
The German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Germany Trade & Invest have identified six countries that earn increased attention of the German export economy. Among the “top export markets 2014” are China, Columbia, Ghana, Indonesia, South Korea and the United Kingdom. State Secretary Stefan Kapferer:" Despite their great differences, the selected countries are characterized by an above-average growth, a positive development in the core sectors of the German middle class and a stable business environment." Further details.
According to VDMA-The German Engineering Association, West African imports of packaging, plastics and printing machinery, between 2010 and 2013, have considerably grown. See detailed graphs further down.
Ghana and West Africa have gone through a difficult period of time during the past six months though. Due to the outbreak of and the fear for Ebola. This is also reflected by the number of exhibitors compared to last year. While there has never been any case of Ebola in Ghana, unfortunately the show has become smaller this year.
Having said that, we are delighted to welcome a very honorable participation from eleven countries at agrofood & plastprintpack West Africa 2014, namely from Austria, France, Germany, Ghana, India, Italy, Ivory Coast, Korea, Lebanon, Switzerland and Turkey
